Is your campus fashion for the year going to be edgy, grungy and punky or just plain geeky? These are just a few questions that are on every student’s mind this time of the year. We speak to city fashionistas to predict a fashion forecast for this season. Take notes and make a stylish statement on campus, all year long.
Colour-rama! According to fashion student, Sonali Pamnani, this year, boring monotones will give way to a whole lot of colours.
“Especially with colour blocking being the ‘in’ thing right now, students can go all out to experiment with this look,” she says. When it comes to accessorising too, you can have fun with colours, says Archana Rao. “Neon-coloured ultra slim belts will be a huge rage,” she says. If you are wary of too much colour, you can opt for splashes of neon to add character to your dull outfits, be it through bright shorts or colourful zippers used as decorative trims on tees.
Mad about denims Move over jeggings, leggings, tights and other variants. Denims are uber hot once again, but this time, try the ones with a vibrant twist. Says Sonali, “Denims in different shades like navy blue, pink, orange and even bright yellow are going to be a hit for sure.” Those who like their fashion statements to be ultra feminine can go for pastels. “Soft colours like mint blue or dusty pink are a cool choice for denims too,” says Archana.
Print this Printed dresses teamed with jackets can add edginess to your ensemble. High-waist skirts are very ‘in’ and can be paired with tank tops, or t-shirts. “What are going to be new this year on the street are floral printed trousers in vivid colours. These could be teamed with sheer blouses with lace details,” says Archana.
Boyfriend clothes A masculine approach to shirt styles for women is going to be hot this season. Boyfriend denims for girls will definitely be a rage on campuses. Apart from being trendy, they are extra comfortable for an active college day. Team a white ganji over boyfriend denims, accessorised with either chunky jewellery or drop down charm necklaces and you can’t go wrong.
Designer verdict City designer Zubin Vakil feels that campus style is the barometer of young fashion. “Jeans studded with grommets, crystal and metallic fastners will spice up the corridors. Draped tees that fall on your body flatteringly will be all the rage. Hotter will be asymmetric blouses and tunics. Skirts sweep in with a vengeance and shorts will be the new accepted norm. Pretty cotton and denim dresses, both long and short, with a retro 80’s feel, will make a feminine statement and chase boredom out of the campus gates,” says Zubin Vakil.
